5-PACK Star Certified Organic Hops Rhizome
Get your hops growing off to a strong start with a 5-pack of Star Certified Organic Hops Rhizomes.
Star is a rare old Belgian variety of hops that is sometimes confused with Southern Hops (from South Africa). It is no longer grown commercially because of its poor yield but it definitely has a place in the home brewing industry. Star’s high humulene content supports the pleasant continental-type aroma common to noble hops. Released by the USDA in the early 80’s from stock received from Yugoslavia in 1979. Star is used as a late-finishing hop to add spicy flavors of herbs like basil, coriander and cloves to final brewing. Very good dry storage stability.
Used to brew: Belgian and Bohemian style beers.
Diseases: Downy mildew - tolerant

Beta acids: 1.7%

What our customers have said about Star Hops Rhizomes:
"Planted two rhizomes of "Star" hops last spring, which produced enough in year one to make five batches of beer.. These hops are very mellow, with a slightly spicy, somewhat fruity character that balances a light ale without leaving a sour aftertaste. I look forward to this year's harvest, as I have not found another hop variety that produces this wonderful flavor! The plants are vigorous and I have not had any issues with mildew or disease. This was a lucky find!"
