Culinary Sage Seeds
Salvia officinalis
Member of the mint family having a long history of medical importance. The word sage comes from the Latin word 'salvere' meaning to save. A latin proverb from the 10th century translates "Why should a man die when sage flourishes in his garden". In Medieval days, sage was thought to impart wisdom and improve the memory, hence the old English word Sage, meaning a wise man. The Arabs thought using it in food would increase intelligence. Today it is best known for its use in poultry stuffing and sausage.
