Lady's Mantle Seeds
Alchemilla vulgaris
This herb is a very attractive and useful addition to any garden. A profusion of yellow-green flowers in loose clusters begins in May and continues all summer. The beautiful blue-green scalloped shaped leaves have a characteristic of catching the morning dew in the funnel shaped fold at the base of the leaf. To 16th century alchemists, these little pearls of dew were thought to contain mystical powers and therefore were used in many magical potions. The Christian Church attributed it so much power it named it 'Our Lady's Mantle'. Lady's Mantle contains tannins and anti-inflammatory substances. It is also astringent, Culpepper called it "one of the most singular wound herbs". The dried leaves are used in a tea to relieve discomfort of menopause and excessive menstruation.
To Make Tea - Pour one cupful of boiling water over 2 tsp. of dried herb, infuse 10 min. Take one cup once or twice a day. May sweeten with honey.
