Also known as Zhi zi. The flowers of Gardenia are well known for their awesome fragrance in corsages and perfume, but the plant has medicinal uses as well. This variety has a decorative star shaped single flower that smells heavenly. Pretty glossy dark green leaves make a nice small shrub when flowers are not present. The berries are used in Chinese medicine to treat a range of ailments from fever, high blood pressure, insomnia and hepatitis to sprains, swelling and bruises. Can also be grown as a houseplant.
