Angelica, Bai Zhi Seed - Angelica dahurica Description and Uses: Commonly referred to as Chinese Angelica or by its Chinese name Bai Zhi, Wild Angelica, Garden Angelica, and Root of the Holy Ghost. Angelica dahurica is a Chinese medicinal used to prevent/reduce fevers, treat infections, relieve pain and improve blood flow. Native to Siberia, Far Eastern Russia, Mongolia, Northeastern China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Its natural habitat is near river banks, along streams and among rocky shrubs. The root of Bai Zhi contain furanocoumarins and angelicotoxin. Seed Germinating Tips: This seed requires a long period of cold stratification. Press seeds into sterile potting mix - do not cover with soil. Water in, cover seed flat with fine wire to keep rodents and birds out and leave outside through the winter months (or place in the refrigerator for 2-3 months.) Bring indoors when signs of germination begin, usually in 30-40 days. Can be sporadic.
